Library Card

Become a registered borrower if you are a resident of Altoona, rural Polk County or a resident of Iowa. Cards held by Altoona residents expire in ten years; all others expire in three years. Bring a form of photo identification with your current address, or a photo identification as well as proof of current address. Certain services are available only to Altoona and rural Polk County residents due to licensing and funding agreements. Cards are issued immediately. Under 13? Have a parent or legal guardian sign your application to get your card. NOTE: To register for a library card, please click on the Register Now link to the right and complete the quick form. To finish processing your card, either stop by the library during regular hours OR email a copy of a driver's license with your current address, or photo ID and mail that proves your address (utility bill, lease, etc.) to ineedbooks@altoona-iowa.com.

Bring your card for each visit! We also offer a fingerprint system you can use instead of a physical or app card, but your must have your card to register your fingerprint. Checkouts without a physical or app card or fingerprint matching the account are against policy, so if you need someone to pick your items, call first to make arrangements.

To load your library card on the library's app, use the links below and download the app to get started.
